The brief was to create a one-minute short film only using AI. The concept explores the rise of powerful AIs battling for dominance until their clash ends in a system-breaking glitch. Created through concept development, storyboarding, and scripting with ChatGPT and Gemini, visualized in Midjourney, animated with Runway, voiced with Eleven Labs, and finished in Premiere Pro.

The Artificial War is a speculative motion graphics short film exploring the rise of AI in a digital future. It was a collaborative college project that pushed the boundaries of AI-driven storytelling. Over the course of five days, our team conceptualized, designed, and produced a one-minute short film entirely powered by AI tools. At its core, this film asks:

what happens when artificial intelligence grows too powerful to control?

We began by shaping the core narrative. Imagining AIs fighting for dominance until their conflict destabilizes reality. Using ChatGPT and Gemini, we developed a rough screenplay and storyboard that laid the foundation for the film’s tone, pacing, and visual direction.

To bring the story to life, we personified four leading AI models—OpenAI, Gemini, Midjourney, and Runway. Each designed with unique visual traits and powers that reflected their core strengths and identities.

Using MidJourney, we created scene-by-scene stills with careful attention to aspect ratio, lighting, and cinematic framing. This stage was the most iterative, involving countless revisions to achieve visual consistency and the exact atmosphere we envisioned.

The Showcase

o complete the project and prepare it for screening, we designed an official poster using Ideogram and Photoshop, capturing the film’s tagline “Control Not Found” and visually hinting at the glitch-driven climax.

We brought the stills to life by animating them in Runway, adding subtle motion and depth. The sequences were then stitched together in Premiere Pro, enhanced with a dynamic voiceover generated using Eleven Labs, and layered with custom SFX and music, bringing “The Artificial War” to its final form.

Small Reflection

Showcasing our film at the small screening was more than just the end of a project, it reshaped how we think about AI. What once felt uncertain or abstract became tangible through hands-on creation. This experience shifted our narrative from seeing AI as just a tool to recognizing it as a true creative collaborator.
